What Happened?
On March 21, 2023, Luke was driving southbound on FDR Drive near 90th Street when he was involved in a three-car rear-end collision. As traffic slowed, the vehicle behind him was rear-ended, and the force of the impact caused it to hit Luke. The collision resulted in immediate whiplash, chest pain, and back pain for Luke. He was initially evaluated by paramedics and later took himself to Montefiore Hospital after his symptoms worsened. He was examined, treated, and released with instructions to see a specialist for further medical care.
Following the accident, Luke suffered injuries to his neck, back, left ankle, right knee, and shoulders. He experienced pain during work-related activities, neck motion, bending, lifting, carrying, walking, and standing. Additionally, he had tenderness in both shoulders and his right knee when walking, and his left ankle would go numb. Several MRI’s revealed multi-level disc herniations in his neck and back, left ankle tenosynovitis, a right knee meniscus tear, and tears on both of his shoulders. When conservative treatment failed to improve his condition, Luke underwent lower back surgery and left ankle surgery in January 2024.
Luke had previously hired Adam Handler a few years earlier to handle a different accident.
