What Happened?
On February 21, 2017, Jada was walking to her job that was at a cancer treatment facility. She was crossing the street between 66th Street and 3rd Avenue in NYC when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The driver of the car acted carelessly by ignoring the green crosswalk light that gave Jada the right of way. Consequently, Jada was violently knocked backwards by the front end of the car. Thankfully, the driver stopped and got out to help while a nearby pedestrian called an ambulance and waited with her. Jada was then taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital for an evaluation.
As a result of the accident, Jada sustained injuries to her back, neck, right wrist, head and tailbone. She was hospitalized for a few days, confined to her bed for a total of twelve weeks, and could not leave her house for six months after the accident! Her injuries required both neck surgery and back surgery. Jada strained and sprained multiple muscles and tendons in various portions of her back. She also had multiple disc herniations and sprained her right wrist, as a result of the accident. Jada now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, post-concussion syndrome, vertigo, post-traumatic headaches and cognitive impairment. Moreover, she regularly has pain management injections and may still need other surgical procedures. All of her injuries cause lasting pain, disability and discomfort that is of a permanent nature. She is no longer able to work at the cancer treatment facility because of her injuries.
