What Happened?
On October 8th, 2020, DW was riding his bike on Buffalo Avenue in Brooklyn, NY. About 30 feet south of Prospect Place, there was a vehicle that was partially parked in a parking space but was also double parked next to another vehicle up ahead. DW was passing the semi-parked vehicle when the driver inside the car suddenly opened the door to exit, causing him to hit the door and knock him off his bike! Fortunately, DW was wearing his helmet and did not hit his head but did feel dazed after the accident. That same day he went to his doctor at Brooklyn Hospital where he was evaluated, treated, and released home with a prescription for pain medication.
DW injured his right hip, right knee, right shoulder, and low back due to this accident. The pain he felt in his back radiated to the right lower extremity that was associated with a numbness and tingling sensation. His pain worsened with any type of activity like bending, twisting, turning, pushing, lifting, using the stairs, and standing for long periods of time. For several months, he continued having difficulty doing household chores and work activities. DW was required to attend physical therapy and participate in a home exercise program, which did provide some relief. Thankfully, DW was able to continue working at an auto body repair shop.
Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, DW got Adam Handler’s phone number and called our team a couple of weeks after the accident. While DW focused on getting better, our team handled the entire legal matter with the Defendant’s insurance company. The insurance company made such a low offer, that we prepared to take them to court. After we filed a lawsuit, the insurance company changed their offer! With the help of our top Brooklyn dooring accident lawyer at Pollack, Pollack, Isaac & DeCicco, all of his medical bills were paid off and we helped DW recover 3.5 times more than the insurance company’s initial offer!
