What Happened?
On June 27th 2022, Amelia (driver) and Nathan (front seat passenger) drove west on Jerome Avenue in the Bronx. While they were stopped at a red light at the intersection of East 175th Street, another vehicle with a green light crossed the intersection and attempted to go around slowed traffic ahead to pass by. The vehicle swerved to the right and t-boned the driver’s side of Nathan and Amelia’s car! Their vehicle was pushed onto the sidewalk and hit a bus stop pole. The airbags deployed and their totaled vehicle was later towed from the scene of the accident. Amelia was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at St. Barnabas Hospital, for evaluation and treatment. The next day, Nathan went on his own to the emergency room.
Amelia injured her neck, upper back, left shoulder, left knee and right ankle. She remembered hitting her chest on the steering wheel and her knee with the underside quarter front console. She had difficulty raising her left arm above the shoulder level and standing/sitting for long periods of time. Nathan injured his knees and right shoulder. He remembered feeling dizzy immediately after the accident but did not have much pain initially. He was unable to do any activities that involved bending his knees and standing for more than 10 minutes. As a result of the car accident, Amelia underwent left knee surgery and Nathan underwent right knee surgery, missing several months of work.
For years, Amelia and Nathan had heard Adam Handler’s radio show. After their accident, they remembered the HANDLER name and called our team two days later. Unfortunately, we discovered after a thorough investigation that the vehicle that hit them had no auto insurance! The Defendant’s vehicle was removed from the insurance policy just two months prior to the accident, which meant that the insurance company was not liable to compensate Amelia and Nathan. Instead of walking away empty handed, our resilient Bronx intersection car accident lawyer at Pollack, Pollack, Isaac & DeCicco, LLP was still able to recover the maximum policy limits for Amelia and Nathan in less than 5 months!
