What Happened?
On November 6th, 2017, Duyland was pushing a cart of metal at work when he was struck from behind by a forklift. It hit his back and right foot/ankle, causing him to fall forward to the ground. Initially, Duyland went to Montefiore Medical Center where he was admitted overnight while at the emergency room.
As a result of the accident, Duyland suffered injuries to his neck, lower back, knees, left shoulder, and ankles. He described his back and neck pain as throbbing and aching with stiffness. He had difficulty sitting, standing, and walking for any prolonged period of time as well as severe cramping sensations through his legs. When minimally invasive pain management therapy did not improve his injuries, Duyland underwent right ankle surgery, left shoulder surgery, and lumbar/cervical spine surgery. Duyland is 100% disabled and now walks with a single axis cane for support and cannot participate in any activities he once enjoyed, much less get through his day, without pain.
