What Happened?
On November 4th, 2020, Dakota was a front seat passenger in a car driving in the Town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County. The car she was in stopped at a stop sign on West Vehslage Street and proceeded to make a left turn onto North Ocean Avenue when the car she was riding in crashed into an SUV on the side where Dakota was sitting! She remembered hitting her right arm on the window. The driver of the other vehicle lost control, went into another lane, and was hit by another vehicle that resulted in the SUV driving off the road and hitting a pole. Dakota went to a nearby hospital where she was treated and released home.
As a result of the accident, Dakota suffered injuries to her neck, back, and right shoulder. While she felt a lot of pain in those areas, the worst area of pain was her neck and lower back. She felt pain and a tingling sensation in her neck that would radiate through the right shoulder and down the length of the right upper extremity. She also felt severe pain and a tingling sensation in her lower back throughout the left leg. As a student, Dakota’s injuries limited her ability to sit for long periods of time in lectures. She participated in therapy several months and underwent pain management injections. Thankfully, she did not need surgery.
