What Happened?
Christmas morning on December 25th, 2019, Amy was a backseat passenger in a vehicle that was traveling on South Columbus Avenue and approaching the intersection of East 4th Street in Mount Vernon, New York. When the vehicle Amy was in started crossing the intersection, another vehicle traveling east on East 4th Street ran a red light and drove through the intersection, colliding with the front passenger’s side of Amy’s car! She was transported by ambulance to the emergency room at Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital where she was evaluated, treated, and discharged home.
As a result of the accident, Amy suffered injuries to her neck, head, back, and left knee. When the collision occurred, the airbags in the vehicle deployed and she remembered hitting her head on the airbag with no loss of consciousness. While she was able to get out of the car on her own after the accident, she had to sit down due to the pain in her left knee. Her injuries made it difficult for her to look down, use the phone, hold grocery bags, and perform self-care activities to name a few activities. For several months, Amy attended physical therapy which overall did gradually improve her wellbeing and she was not required to undergo surgery.
Amy’s family heard about The Case Handler team and called us soon after the accident.
