What Happened?
On July 18, 2020, Jermaine was driving in the Bronx when he approached the intersection of Adee Avenue and Tiemann Avenue. Prior to crossing the intersection, Jermaine noticed another vehicle that was stopped at the stop sign. Jermaine proceeded through the intersection when the other vehicle suddenly made a left turn and crashed into the front driver’s side of Jermaine’s vehicle! He was taken by ambulance to Jacobi Hospital.
As a result of the accident, Jermaine had severe whiplash and developed pain in his neck, back, right shoulder, and left knee. He also had bilateral hand and thumb pain from holding the steering wheel. An MRI of his bilateral thumbs revealed a medial collateral ligament tear. It was very difficult for him to reach, lift, carry, walk, stand, bend, and perform household chores. Physical therapy provided some relief, however, his pain persisted. On November 11, 2020, Jermaine underwent surgery on his right shoulder to repair a SLAP tear (“Superior Labrum Anterior Posterior”), tear of anterior labrum, and partial rotator cuff tear.
Thanks to a neighbor (you rock, neighbor!), Jermaine heard about Adam Handler and called our team soon after the accident. Not surprisingly, the other driver that hit Jermaine told the police that Jermaine was speeding and it was his fault the accident occurred! The other driver also said that they made sure the intersection “was clear of oncoming vehicles” before making a left turn.
